The Tender Risk of Always
A jack-of-all-trades composer, an immense creator of melodies and film themes, a prodigiously inventive arranger, Michel Legrand has left behind a gigantic body of work whose hits, many of which have become jazz standards, are only the tip of a continent of music.
Christine Python and Nicolas Nadar came to Legrand's work by very different paths, and over the years they have shared a growing enthusiasm for his inexhaustible repertoire. From this regular dialogue came the desire for a joint project, building around Legrand's songs a two-voice exploration of the torments of love, the central theme of all his work. From the great classics to little-known nuggets, from cinematic romances to zany fantasies, this touching tour de chant is a sober affair.
Far from the big bands and Hollywood violins that so often adorn Michel Legrand's melodies, the duo opt for sober, acoustic arrangements, highlighting the composer's wild inventiveness and the mischievousness of his lyrics.
An intimate and intense journey to the heart of the soul-sound of the great Legrand.
