When to comeThe château is fully heated and has two educational rooms, so we welcome school groups for themed tours and workshops throughout the school year.
When to bookTo ensure that your visit is as comfortable as possible and that it is spread out evenly throughout the day, you must book (even for self-guided tours) at least a month and a half in advance with the château's reservations department.
Requests should be made by telephone or e-mail.
Prices
School, extra-curricular and student groups are subject to the "school group" rates of the Centre des monuments nationaux. Rates are fixed (per class: maximum 35 pupils).

Reduced rate (REP)
Reduced rates apply to :
- REP or REP+ schools
- adapted classes (UP2A, CLIS, ULIS, SEGPA, etc.)
- schools and classes specialising in combating early school leaving
- facilities for people with disabilities
- facilities located in priority neighbourhoods/urban policy areas
- youth protection or child welfare facilities
- associations providing assistance to new arrivals or helping people integrate into society.

How to pay
Payment must be made on the day of the visit at the château ticket office . Any group failing to present the correct means of payment may be refused access to the monument.
Traditional payments :
- Cash: we do not accept 200€ or 500€ banknotes.
- Credit card.
Visit conditions and rules
- Dress appropriately.
- Closed shoes are recommended.
- It is forbidden to climb or sit on the walls.
- Supervisors must maintain visual contact with the pupils and supervise them throughout the school outing.

Getting to the castle
The castle is accessible by road and public transport.
Road network
- From Paris, Lyon or Bourg-en-Bresse: A40, exit 10 "Bellegarde Pays-de-Gex"; RN206 towards Pays-de-Gex; D984 then D35 towards Ferney-Voltaire.
- From Lausanne and Geneva: A1, exit Ferney (vignette compulsory on Swiss motorways).
Parking:
- Château de Voltaire car park .
- Calas municipal car park (5-minute walk)
- Bijou car park (10-minute walk).
Arriving at the site
The group waits at the ticket office while the group leader arrives with their receipts. Unless payment has been made in advance via an order form or Pass Culture, the sums due are to be paid by the group leader by cheque, cash or credit card.
What if I'm late?
Any delay is detrimental to your outing: remember to inform the monument if you are more than 10 minutes late.
Equipment
- The monument does not have cloakrooms: bags may be left in the sheltered area provided for classes but will not be supervised.
- Picnics are only permitted for school groups booked for the whole day: in the event of bad weather, a small sheltered area (educational rooms) is available. Please remember to bring rubbish bags and dispose of them in the bin by the main entrance.
- Toilets: 2 toilets on the ticket office level, 3 toilets in the basement.
